Bowen Therapy
Bowen therapy, also known as Bowen technique or Bowenwork, is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork that aims to stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms. Developed by Australian Thomas Ambrose Bowen in the 1950s and 1960s, it involves the therapist making precise, rolling movements over specific points on the body, often using thumbs or fingers. These movements are designed to trigger the body's autonomic nervous system to reset and rebalance, promoting healing and relief from a variety of ailments. This technique promotes your body's innate healing during the rest and digest phase to tune into what it needs to be in balance
  • Gentle Touch
Bowen therapy involves very gentle, subtle movements. Unlike some other forms of bodywork, it doesn't involve forceful manipulation of muscles or joints.
  • Specific Points
Practitioners of Bowen therapy target specific points on the body known as "Bowen points" or "Bowen moves." These points are often located on muscles, tendons, or fascia.
  • Pause
After each set of movements, the therapist typically pauses to allow the body to respond and integrate the stimulation. This pause is considered essential to the effectiveness of Bowen therapy.
  • Whole Body Approach
Although Bowen therapy can target specific issues or areas of pain, it also takes a holistic approach to healing. Practitioners often work on the entire body, believing that addressing imbalances in one area can have positive effects throughout the body.
  • Self-Healing Response
The goal of Bowen therapy is to activate the body's innate healing mechanisms. By stimulating the autonomic nervous system, Bowen therapy encourages the body to reset and rebalance itself, leading to pain relief, improved mobility, and overall well-being.
  • Versatility
Bowen therapy can be used to address a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, sports injuries, stress-related issues, and chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia. It is also suitable for people of all ages, from infants to the elderly.
Bowen therapy is often described as a holistic, integrative approach to healing that complements conventional medical treatment. It is generally considered safe and suitable for most people, although it may not be appropriate for certain individuals, such as those with severe medical conditions or recent surgeries.
